First, I suggest you replace the batteries because this issue may occur if the battery power is low. Also, try to connect the receiver to a different USB port. If it doesn't work, press Windows + R key combination, type devmgmt.msc and click OK. Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers list, right-click on the driver and select Uninstall. Reboot the PC, press the Scan for hardware changes icon from Device Manager and check if the mouse works. If it doesn't, go to Start, type appwiz.cpl and open the utility. Locate the mouse software, press Uninstall and after the process is complete install it again. If the problem persists, check the Microsoft Support page for further solutions.
How do I prevent my laptop touch pad from freezing whenever I press a button (the W A S D keys for example while playing a game)? How can I disable this feature so I can use both keyboard and touch pad at the same time?

In order to solve the problem, open the Synaptics Pointing Device and navigate to Touchpad Properties > Device Settings > Settings > Palm Enhanced ACM Settings. After that, select the slider, move it to off and save the changes.
If it doesn't work, press Windows + R key combination, type regedit and click OK. Go to HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Synaptics > SynTP > Defaults and set the PalmKms entries values to 0. In this way your touch pad will stay disabled 0 seconds after you hit a key from your keyboard.

If you have a Synaptics touchpad driver on your notebook then yes, you can upgrade to version 12.2.11.19. It's the same driver only that it's an updated one. It should work with your notebook.
When I try to install this driver, instead of starting the downloading process, it takes me to Synaptics page which doesn't offer a link to download version 10.0. Can you help me?

Just download the latest version 14.0 and it will work absolutely fine with your hardware. I was using version 9.0.
As you can see on the FAQ section from the official web page, you will need to update the TouchPad driver in order to fix the issue. To do this, you need to visit your computer manufacturer's web page, identify your computer model and operating system and download and install the latest files.
